Back in business

Yes, ok, we’ve been bad about posting, we apologize — we blame summer distractions, unrelenting job-related duties (how else are we gonna pay for this party?? :) ), and our pathological addiction to the Olympics.

But now that summer is on the wane, evidenced by increasingly autumnal weather patterns (at least for those of us in the NE) and decreasingly abundant daylight (sigh…); now that the workload has freed up (XM, my client at Razorfish, is in the throes of acquisition, and therefore hasn’t placed the returning our calls the highest of priorities); and since the Olympics in Beijing are rolling to a conclusion (NBC coverage had gotten decidedly more milquetoast following Michael Phelps’ medals sweep, anyway), we find ourselves once again focused, like laser beams, like Shawn Johnson on the balance beam, on FinkelChang, 2009 ….

Stay tuned for more posts and updates in the upcoming days and weeks. Promise :)

And now, an update …

So by now you all should have received your Save-the-Date Card via the postal service. Only a few months late, but whatevs. Just as long as you receive the actual invites before the wedding itself, we should be copacetic. ;-)

While we must apologize for the delay in recent posts, we would also like this opportunity to relay to you some evolving, and in some cases resolving (no, for real!), behind-the-scenes FinkelChang developments.

Event Schedule.
The schedule of official/non-official events has not changed since we last wrote about it. We’ve made a block reservation at a restaurant in Kowloon for New Year’s Eve for those of you in town by then. Afterwards, we can goof off in the city somewhere, or retire back to the hotel and, uh, play Scrabble. On January 2nd we’re hosting a dim sum (when in Rome …) on Hong Kong island. And beginning around 3pm on the 3rd, the ceremony, complete with a Chuppah! Get ready for a big belly-busting Chinese banquet that evening, and some disco-dancing courtesy of our dynamic guest DJ/VJ duo. Bring it.

Hotels.
Our intention is for everyone to stay on the Kowloon (peninsula) side, rather than the Hong Kong (island). Accordingly, we have been working to secure a bloc of rooms at a few hotels in the area. Stay tuned; more news soon.

Flights.
In a word, generate your itinerary and GET YOUR TICKETS SOON. Mental block

January, 2009A heads up for all you early deal-seekers and itinerary-makers – while specific event details will be forthcoming (and whose leaks will be cleverly timed to maximize effect :-), we wanted to provide the above schedule to give you at least a general idea of which days to set aside.

1. For those of you already arrived in town, we were planning to hold some sort of lowkey NYE event on the night of the 31st.

2. Things may be slow on the 1st, so a daytrip to Macau, Aberdeen, Lantou Island, or the New Territories could be amenable.

3. There will be some sort of banquet event on the 2nd (most likely dim sum – a Guangzhou specialty. YUM).

4. And finally, the ceremony and dinner banquet and partay will be held on the 3rd. (Remember to take a disco nap)

As for airline and hotel deals specific to these days, we are digging around and will keep you posted on what we find. In the meantime, take a spin through kayak.com and hotels.com to get a lay of the land …

The east west connection

the NY-HK axisSo, a bit of news.

We recently returned from a 10-day extravaganza in Hong Kong, where we met with our peeps on the ground, toured venues high and low, and sampled all sorts of exotic Cantonese cuisine. We have a wealth of information to share, all of which shall soon find their way in these pages, including bar, restaurant and shopping tips (including our favorite tailors – HK is famous for its bespoke culture), local protocols (behold the elegant two-handed offer of tender), transportation shortcuts (check your luggage in while you’re in the city – before you head to the airport), and the thrills and vicissitudes of gambling on the formerly Portuguese outpost of Macau (forget those bad-ass Triads of yore; be prepared to rub elbows at your Pai Gao table with nouveau riche Mainlanders – with renminbi to burn …).

Stay tuned!

Welcome to the Terrordome …

Abandon all hope ye who enter ...

No no no, just kidding!

Welcome to the 2009.finkelchang, clearinghouse of pertinent (and some impertinent, if you are so lucky) information as regards the wedding of Meredith Finkelstein and Lian Chang to take place about a year from now in exotic Hong Kong … Bring it!

We would love if you can join us. But we see you all the time, you protest. Well, we know that it’s a big schlep to get to HK. And we know that miles and logistics and the weak dollar are as a rule the least fun aspects of travel. So we want to make it as enticing and as easy and painless for you. We’ll populate this site (’bloooo0og’, if you must) for you with links to airlines, hotels, and all the assorted deals we can gather thru our people on the ground, some ingenius sleuthing on the Internets, and the greasing of many goose-fat soaked palms.

More sexily though, we really want to get you stoked about the cultural, sartorial, culinary possibilities of Hong Kong. Because it’s a kickin’ town, full of flavor and style and life and (semi-)edible animal parts. It’s also a terrific launch-point for those of you who may have always want to travel the Far East but have hitherto lacked an excuse …

Let 2009.finkelchang be your motivation. Let 2009.finkelchang be the wind behind your junk.

Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, much success and ai in the ‘08 …..
